What are the main differences between hot rolling and cold rolling?

1. Appearance and surface quality: since the cold plate is obtained from the hot plate after the cold rolling process, and some surface finishing will be carried out during the cold rolling process, the cold plate is better than the hot plate in surface quality (such as surface roughness). Therefore, if there are high requirements for the coating quality such as painting in the product sequence, the cold plate is generally selected, and the hot plate is divided into pickled plate and non pickled plate, The surface of the pickled plate is of normal metal color because it has been pickled, but it is not cold rolled, so the surface is still not as high as the cold plate. The surface of the non pickled plate usually has an oxide layer with black hair, or there is a black layer of Fe3O4. Generally speaking, it is roasted by fire, and it is usually embroidered if the storage environment is not good.
2. Performance: generally, the mechanical properties of hot plate and cold plate are considered to be indistinguishable in engineering. Although the cold plate has certain work hardening during cold rolling (but it does not rule out the strict requirements on mechanical properties, it needs to be treated differently). The yield strength and surface hardness of cold plate are usually slightly higher than those of hot plate, How specific depends on the degree of cold plate annealing. However, the strength of annealed cold plate is higher than that of hot plate.
3. Formability: because the performance of cold and hot plates is basically not too poor, the influencing factors of formability depend on the difference of their surface quality. Since the surface quality is better than that of cold plates, generally speaking, the forming appearance effect of cold plates is better than that of hot plates.
